Walking

Abby is walking! The official day was November 20th (I know, that was the day after my last post - which was a week and half ago, sorry!!). Abby had taken several steps on her own over the previous weeks, but they were almost always done when we were pushing her to do it (one of us letting go of her and forcing her to take a couple steps to the other's arms) or when she didn't realize it (at those times, she'd quickly plop down the second she realized she wasn't holding on to anything!). Basically, she wasn't interested in walking on her own even though it was obvious she had the ability to do it.

But then at Wednesday evening church on the 19th an interesting event occurred. Abby was cruising along one of the pews after the service when along came one of her little friends, Solomon, who is three weeks older than she and has been walking for quite some time. Abby moved toward him as if to want to play with him, but he took off down the pew at almost a run. Abby took a few steps (while holding on to the pew, of course), but then seemed to give up and just stared at Solomon as he sped away.

The following morning, Abby kept standing up on her own and practicing taking steps with no encouragement from us. It was as if she were no longer afraid to take steps on her own and was determined to walk. All day she practiced over and over and by evening her longest walk was eight steps! The only thing we could attribute to this change in her attitude and behavior was the incident with Solomon. Our guess is that she saw that he was a baby and could walk so it must be okay and she could do it too.

In just two days time, she was walking the length of our hallway, stopping to bend and pick things up, changing directions, carrying things in her hands while walking, etc. She's practically a pro now. I'm still getting used to seeing her walk though. It is the funniest thing to look out the bathroom door and see your baby walking by on her feet like an adult! Anyway, she's enjoying her new found walking skills and thankfully it hasn't brought us too much more trouble yet. =)

Yay! That is so cool. I love the first steps. They are such a milestone. Seeing other little ones walk is a real confidence booster I think. Micah started walking after we kept him overnight when Jayne was in the hospital having Noah. Because Emma was already walking, he figured he could too.

Fun! Congrats! I was just wondering last sunday if she was walking yet...I dont see her down much...you should let her show off her new trick! :)

I LOVED Coleson when started walking...obedience is no different than crawling, no is no and yes is yes :) I think it's very handy-and especially as your belly grows, what a blessing! :)
