Tradition Passed On

This morning I made Abby her very first teddy bear pancake (the bottom half had already been eaten when the picture above was taken =). My mom often made me teddy bear pancakes when I was little. I'm not sure if it was because my nickname was Sara-Beara or just because bears are one of the easier pancakes to make (my mom also tried a cat a few times upon my request, but those never turned out....long, skinny tails and pointy ears are pretty impossible to make with pancake batter!). Since Abby's nickname is Little Bear - mostly because she used to growl a lot when she was younger! - and she loves teddy bears, I decided to make her one. She was excited when I set it on her tray and, as with her birthday cake, I was very pleased she recognized my creation as a teddy bear, even without a face this time! She had fun poking the bear and saying, "Bear!" (well, the "R" is not really pronounced but it does sound like the complete word now). I'm sure that as soon as Abby can talk better this will become a regular request. So, on goes the tradition of teddy bear pancakes!

Yay for tradition! And one day, Abby will be doing the same thing for her daughter...

Abby is lucky! I'm usually in to big of a hurry (trying to make enough pancakes!) to be that creative!

What a good idea! I hadn't thought about making things into shapes yet. :o)
