I'll start of with the negatives, since they are so easy to come up with! Here are my top ten in no specific order (okay, except the first one - it's definitely the worst!):
1. Nausea.
2. Uncomfortableness in last trimester (I'm not looking forward to those last few weeks when you're so huge that no positions are comfortable and it's nearly impossible to sleep!).
3. Swollen feet (my feet got so huge last time that none of my shoes fit except flip-flops).
4. Frequent bathroom trips (especially at night!).
5. Millions of doctor's appointments (okay, so I might be exaggerating, but it feels like millions when you realize you've read every magazine in the office already!).
6. Back pain.
7. Gagging when brushing my teeth.
8. Fatigue.
9. Getting fat (let's face it - we know it's for a good reason, but it's still hard to handle putting on all that weight!).
10. Stretch marks.
And since I'm working on being positive about it too, here are my top ten pros of pregnancy:
1. The miracle of life.
2. A sibling for my firstborn.
3. A great motivator to exercise and eat healthy.
4. My husband is extra kind and more helpful. =)
5. No one on my volleyball team gets upset at me when I mess up a play.
6. I get to take more naps.
7. The anticipation of getting to meet a brand-new, never-existed-before person!
8. Making grandparents and aunts and uncles happy for a new addition to the family. =)
9. Unexpected kindness from strangers (i.e. opening doors, waiting for you to cross the street, etc) and friends (i.e. receiving passed-along baby clothes, words of encouragement, etc).
10. Feeling the baby kick for the first time.
For those of you who are pregnant or have been pregnant before, what are some of your pros and cons for your pregnancies?
8 comments:
Amazing how a change in attitude makes all the difference.
First list: why would anyone do this?
Second list: oh, it's so wonderful I want to do it again.
One thing I loved about pregnancy was maternity pants. Call me crazy, but I love the ease of elastic wastes, but certainty can't get away with wearing it any other time in my list. Maybe I can when I am about 70.... something to look forward to.
Con's: Strangers asking you questions like: "When are you due, boy or girl, are you going to have anymore" ect. I'm polite answering but in my head I'm screaming "Well the first day of my last period was this day, what else would you like to know about my cycle?" "Well if it has a penis it's a boy and if not, that would be a girl. Didn't your mother ever teach you that?" "I don't want to share my future sex life with you, I DON'T KNOW YOU!" *cough* Anyways, pro's are knowing that you have a chance to lead a soul to know and love Jesus Christ and teach them to serve Him! I hope to have 100 grandchildren and 1,000 great-grandchildren and that all will join the Lord's army!!!
#8 on the pros: you get to make friends happy too!
I don't have any authority on the subject, but I'm betting the elastic pants Aly mentioned are pretty great.
p.s. love the new background :)
Cons: no, or at least not as much, coffee.
People touching your belly!
A more limited wardrobe. Ugh.
Pros:
the end result.
ha! Too funny. I actually LOVE the dr. visits!! Although, I can have an ultrasound each time if I like but also I love hearing the heartbeat and getting one step closer. I still drink coffee, so that isnt an issue :) I have never had a strange touch my belly! I love chatting with people about my pregancy or about theirs :) The last trimester does stink, the last 4 weeks primarily. The sleeping/reflux issue last time was so horrid! But I am hopeful that this time will be better (one can hope right?!) I didnt get stretch marks first time around, praying they dont come this time either...a BIG con first time was my varicose vein, but since I had it surgically removed I am praying I dont get another, in a different spot. So uncomfortable and down right annoying. I dont see it working very well in summer time...eek! At least I am due early july if that is the case... anyway. I enjoy pregnancy for the new life to come but by the end am happy to move on to labor/devlivery, another amazing thing that call me crazy I am looking forward to doing again!! :P okay, I think I rambled on enough! :)
i've got to make a disclaimer-i had a really fabulous pregnancy. no stretch marks, no excessive weight gain, no nausea/morning sickness, no swelling, etc. overall, i actually loved being pregnant...especially my 3rd trimester. that was the absolute BEST! i've never felt more confident, beautiful, or capable.
cons:
1.the bathroom was my second home.
2.i was starving all the time...counting the minutes until my next meal.
3.i waddled a little (and my sister made fun of me! lol)
4.getting tired from doing seemingly simple tasks.
pros:
1.love love love the belly. especially the last trimester.
2.feeling the baby kick.
3.maternity shirts and comfy maternity pants. especially the secret belly fit ones from motherhood maternity.
4.the pregnant lady "glow" :o]
5.labor/having a planned homebirth. it was an incredible, empowering, fun, lovely experience. i'd love to do it again as many times as possible!
6.going to the midwife appointments. we'd sit and talk for an hour over tea. it was fabulous.
7.the new dimension of love you find for your husband.
8.chatting about my pregnancy with fellow moms.
9.food is SO much more satisfying. nothing is better than when you eat something you've been craving.
what a fun blog post- comes in handy when you are preggers =) some perspective i guess. i actually don't like when the baby has hiccups inside of me (the constant belly shake drove me crazy) and how once your belly gets big, you actually have to reach over things- which hurts the back. one of the best pros is that you are so thankful when all the cons are gone!! =) at least i am
I thought of another one the other day: hair loss!!! 2 handfulls come out when I wash my hair, another one when I brush it, and gobs of it when I run my fingers through my hair or shake my head! My husband is tired of fixing our drains and cutting out the hair wrapped around the inside of the vacuume cleaner!
