Flu Season is Here Again

I spent the last three days sick with the flu. Ick. I woke up Sunday morning feeling pretty nauseous, but chalked it up to morning sickness (most mornings I still feel queasy and sometimes it can be pretty bad). After I threw up two times, I started getting suspicious that maybe it was more than just the pregnancy. When Abby and I both got fevers later that day, it was confirmed. Thank goodness (and I cannot stress my thankfulness enough!), Abby did not get it near as badly as I did and she never vomited - in fact, she was actually quite cute, all rosy and lethargic, falling asleep in her daddy's arms. I am so grateful that I have never had to deal with a baby and throw up - I cannot even imagine the difficulties, although I'm sure at some point I will be forced to. Anyway, today, I am finally no longer "fluish" but my body is tired and worn out. I guess being pregnant makes having the flu worse and makes it harder get over it. Not fun. Plus, my back is killing me from not getting in my pregnancy back exercises for the last few days and from spending so much time on the couch and in bed. Once again, Kevin didn't get sick nor did my mom (who was over here helping a lot - thanks, mom!), so I guess we can chalk up my extra weak immune system to pregnancy as well. Ever since I was pregnant with Abby, and then nursing Abby and now pregnant with this little guy, I always seem to pick up whatever bug is going around. I never knew that one of the sacrifices of motherhood would be getting sick more often than the rest of my family!

You'd think being pregnant would strengthen your immune system-trying to protect the baby...but I guess it is a lot more work to keep 2 healthy than one. One of my professors has young kids and he is ALWAYS sick, so maybe it's not you being extra sick but Kevin being extra strong! I'm not sure that makes it any better though. :)

your last sentence is so true- everything goes to the baby (whether inside or outside). i have been trying to drown myself in vitamin c and sambuchol and anything else to strenghten the immune system. so not fun! hope you stay healthy until that little guy comes!!

isn't it the worst when you and your child both come down with something?

felicity and i both had colds last week, and boy is it difficult caring for a sick child when you feel awful yourself.

glad you're both feeling better!
