Sand in the City

While we'd been looking forward to the annual Sand in the City in downtown Olympia for weeks, we almost didn't make it. Last Thursday, Ben got some type of flu bug, complete with fever, vomiting and diarrhea. Then Abby, Ben and I got stuffy noses, sore throats and I had a horrible headache. By Saturday morning, we were through the worst of it but still not back to normal yet. It was a tough decision, but we decided to go, mostly for a much-needed distraction for the kids and to get away from the house. The kids loved it. I kinda wished I had stayed at home because I was exhausted by time we were done. :)

The main event is the sand sculpting competition. Abby was excited to find a sand kitty!

There are also lots of kid crafts that Abby and Grandma worked together on, including a flower vase, a sun catcher and a bracelet. She loved it. Ben and I hung out in the toddler play tent most of the time. He loved exploring and learning.

Abby joined us when she was done with her crafting.

Other than the fact that it was incredibly crowded (!!), the kids had a fabulous time and I'm glad we decided to go.
