Vacation

Several days ago we took a little two-night vacation up to Birch Bay near the US-Canadian border. I came up with the idea originally because my brother was planning to run in a race there and I thought it would be neat to make a little family getaway out of it, so I talked my parents into renting a condo through my aunt's timeshare. But my brother injured his knee the week of the race, so he and my dad decided not to come, leaving just my mom, me, the kids and Kevin was able to join us for one night. We still had lots of fun, especially since it was my first "real" vacation (minus a few trips to Oregon to visit relatives) since before Abby was born. Actually, since our time in Pennsylvania. Yes, I do believe the last vacation Kevin and I went on was Spring Break '07 to Williamsburg, VA. But anyways, getting back to this trip. Here are a few of the highlights...

There were three trips to the pool (I'm sure Abby would have gone even more times if it had been up to her!):

The view from our balcony overlooked the pool.

We went on several treks down to the bay, which was directly in front of the resort:

Picking up shells and rocks.

We had sunshine for two days! Yay!

Kevin and I were able to sneak away during the kids' afternoon nap for a quick jaunt up to the Blaine marina. Kevin was interested in checking out the way the commercial fisherman there rigged their bow poles to get ideas for his own boat. I had fun hanging out with him and decided that Blaine has the prettiest marina I've ever seen before.

We spent a good amount of time hanging out in the condo. The kids played with toys, my mom got some reading in, Kevin and I played a game of cribbage, and I even got a few coupons clipped. We also enjoyed the "luxury" of television since we do not have cable at home.

Enjoying quality time with Daddy without any interruptions...well, almost none - maybe next time we should ban cell phones! ;o)

As we headed back home, we stopped at the Tulip Festival in Mount Vernon. For years I've wanted to go to it, but never had the opportunity. And while we enjoyed our time, I'm not sure it would be worth the drive by itself but it worked out perfectly to spend a few hours enjoying the daffodils and tulips while en route to home.

She smells every flower she sees and always says, "Mmm! It smells so good!" whether or not the flower has any fragrance. =)

Yeah for vacations! Looks like a good time was had by all. I always enjoyed going to the tulip festival, but yeah it's probably not really worth the drive all on its own. Great pictures!

Very nice. I've never been to Birch Bay, but my sister's family did and said it was great if you want to do a lot of relaxing. You needed it! Beautiful tulip pictures too. Is that an Ergo I see?
