Where have all the commenters gone?

My blog comments have been dwindling and have now completely disappeared - my last two posts have NO comments so far. So sad. Over the last few months, it is true that my blog traffic has diminished about 25% a day, but that still leaves plenty of you left to comment. =) If you do not have your own blog, you may not understand how important comments and feedback are to a blogger, but let me tell you we live for them. Well, that might be a slight exaggeration, but I will admit that immediately following a new post, I check back often - very often - to see if anyone left a comment. When I get more than the average amount of comments, I am elated and excited that people found what I wrote to be interesting...okay, that people thought the pics of my kids were cute. =) But still, getting those comments can be the highlight of my day. Pathetic, you say. Yeah, probably. But regardless of how pathetic it sounds, I kindly beg ask you to please bring this blogger a little extra joy in her day and leave a comment once in awhile (or every time! =) when you stop by. Thanks!

PS) You don't have to have a blogger account to leave a comment - simply click "anonymous," type your comment, and leave your name so I know who you are!

I hear ya! I've wondered about the "whys" and "whens" of commenters too. But all I have to do is look at my own habits. I always look when one of my people has updated and I try to always comment. If I have someone in my lap or get called away to deal with something though, I don't. Shame on me. I'll do better. I hope your other followers do too!

I just checked a blog that a friend of mine started about a month ago. She already has 47 followers. Forty-seven (20 more than me and and I've been at this 5 years). She also gets at least 10 comments on each post. Not fair. Not fair at all.

In trying to figure out why some posts get more attention than others, I think it is because readers like to give feedback. If there is nothing to answer or contribute to, they are silent. For instance, a post on "should I cut my hair?" will get more than "Here is another picture of my super cute child." I think it is normal. We just need to remember why we started blogging and know that even those "cute kid" posts are very valuable (comments or not).

Haha! I don't get comments either, but I never have anything remotely interesting to say. Post-PBU = no life. I am going to Africa though for 3 months so I might be able to have more interesting things to say (except for the fact that I won't have much of an internet connection)

I agree! I am always so sad when I see there are no comments. (especially if I feel it was well taken photo or extra special post) I feel like I do you well though :) hehe. It's good to know that you like them though, I try to bite my tongue when I think I might be sharing a tad more than is bargained for ;) ...to commenting! :)

i actually always mean to leave a comment, then i get distracted and think, "oh, i'll do it later"...well...later doesn't always come. but, it's so fun to check your blog and see a new post about you and your kiddos so often! your posts are always fun to read :o]

Ah, I know the feeling! Though admittedly I'm not good about commenting. My own version is to look at the number of "views" on my flickr photos. Anyway.

I have a couple of scanned photos of you and your siblings, when you were younger than Abby. Shall I email them to you?

I only check once every few weeks now :( so my comments usually get stuck onto just one blog even though I read through all the stories!
