Third Trimester

I'm into the third trimester of my pregnancy now. Things are going well. Most of my sickness has passed, with occasional nausea when I'm extra tired or haven't eaten. So far, the end of the third trimester issues haven't arrived yet, although I am starting to notice just the slightest bit of swelling (my rings occasionally have difficulty coming off!) and my weight gain is currently at a bit too high of a rate (the difference of a winter/summer pregnancy - who wants to go walking every day when it's 34 degrees out?!?). Yesterday, I got to take the fun glucose test (for those who haven't been pregnant, I'm using the word "fun" sarcastically) and received the RhoGAM injection in the buttocks (for those who have been pregnant but do not have Rh negative blood type, be glad).

It's so interesting for me to observe the differences between this pregnancy and my first one. With my first pregnancy, I was practically obsessed with it. Pregnancy and the coming baby consumed my thoughts, dominated my conversations, and took up much of my time (reading, exercising, shopping, etc). All that changed the second time around. My thoughts and conversations are not dominated by the pregnancy (as this blog surely shows), but rather by Abby. In fact, when people ask how far along I am, I hesitate and am proud to simply remember the general month, compared to the first pregnancy when I knew the week and usually even had it down to the day! Sometimes I even forget I'm pregnant, although that is getting harder and harder the bigger I get. =) With the first pregnancy, I poured over a daily email I signed up for that told me about the progress and developments of my unborn child; now, I'm satisfied to have the pregnancy counter here on the blog that I can look at now and then to remember how much farther I have to go! Then, I spent most of my time and energy preparing for the coming baby; now, I spend most of my time and energy caring for Abby. Come to think of it, I guess I'm still stuck on the first pregnancy, or at least the results of it! =)

You don't have to spend all the time studying books and emails this time around because now you know whats coming-been there done that!

BTW, everyone talks about how gross the glucose test is, I didn't think it was all that bad! I had the orange soda flavor.

I agree with you on the winter exercise. I tried and decided I'd rather be warm in bed!

Ha too funny. I am RH negative too...but didnt think that shot was that bad! Along with the glucose test....just flat pop :) I hope the third trimester goes quickly for you. I too forget some times taht I am pregnant (although it's getting easier to remember :)) but still can tell you to the day what week I am! ;) Sunday is my turn over day...20 weeks today! I actually feel like pregnancy is taking much longer than Coleson's. I was expecting it to go "so fast" as everyone would tell me it would with a toddler. Coleson's 2nd birthday is coming up; maybe things will really start to pick up then...

Rachel and Kristal - It isn't just the sickeninly sweet 10 oz of orange drink that you have to down whether you're thirsty or not, it's also the hour you have to wait at the doctor's office, and then - the worst part - getting your blood drawn. I hate needles and shots! Before I was pregnant, I'd only had my blood drawn once and, other than one tetanus shot, I hadn't had any shots since I was a kid. Thankfully, I am getting more used to it with each prick and it's not so scary as it was the first time through with Abby.

I'm with you, Sara. The glucose test is just terrible when you don't feel great. I threw it up the first time and had to do it again (Emma's pregnancy).

I was the same way with my second pregnancy. I didn't dwell on it as much, it went by quicker, and sadly, I don't remember very much about it. On encouraging note, you will be just as obsessed with your second child when he gets here. It will be all consuming and wonderful.
