Westport

On Saturday, I took Abby and my nephew Ted out to Westport. We spent some time with Kevin's mom, enjoyed the beautiful weather at the beach, and met Kevin down at the docks. The weather was perfect at the beach - warm, but not too hot like the last attempt back in May. Abby had a blast. She LOVED playing in the sand. She got it all over herself, which is to be expected with an almost 10-month-old. But what I didn't expect was that the sand got all over me too. It was impossible to brush her off completely every time I picked her up. And she enjoyed pouring the sand on my leg, rubbing it on my arm, grabbing my necklace with her sand-covered hands, accidentally tossing some down my shirt....I haven't had that much sand in so many places since I was a kid myself! What we sacrifice as parents. =) I was also surprised about Abby's reaction to the ocean. She had no fear of the waves and wanted to "run" right in, which was especially surprising since just two days before we had attempted her first bath in the "big tub" and she was terrified. I couldn't believe how excited she was to put her toes in the ocean water with loud, crashing waves as far as the eye could see when she wouldn't even let me put her toes in the bathtub water at home! Who would've guessed?

My baby playing like a "big girl" in the sand - how did she get to be so big so quickly???

If you look closely, you'll see a sandy hand-print on my leg. =)

After we did our best to brush most of the sand off (a bit later I found tons more in Abby's diaper!), we headed down to the marina to greet Kevin who had just got in from fishing. I could tell the exact moment that Abby spotted her Daddy from amongst the other fisherman. She was so excited to see him and he was so happy to see his girl and show her off to all the other captains.

The boat Kevin owns (the "Angela C").

Kevin also showed Abby his seafood store, the Seafood Connection, for the first time. The store is located on a barge down on the docks just a few spaces away from Kevin's boat. Abby especially enjoyed the live crab tank that customers can peer into from the outside of the store.

While Kevin and I showed Abby around and visited, my nephew Stephen (who had deck handed for Kevin that day) was hard at work cleaning off the boat and my nephew Ted was "hard at work" trying to catch fish off the side of the dock with the leftover bait.

Abby watching Stephen clean the boat from inside the cabin.

And of course no trip to Daddy's boat is complete without a chance to "drive" the boat!

Sara, what a fun blog to read. Looks like Abby takes after her Mommy in loving the beach. Mom
