Field Trip with Daddy

I still haven't had a chance to sit down and write Jake's 1-year-old post but, I promise, I'll get to it soon! In the meantime, here's a collage from a "field trip" we went on as a family to the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge yesterday. Or, as Benny misunderstood me and kept calling it, our "field truck."
When Kevin's home in between fishing trips he's often too busy to go on very many outings, so I was pleasantly surprised when he volunteered on his own to go with us. We had a lovely time walking, exploring, spotting Canadian Geese, and just being together as a family. We didn't go terribly far on the nature walk before turning back since everyone was getting too cold, but we still had a wonderful time and perhaps when the weather gets warmer we'll try it again and walk all the way out to the water. Even though the refuge is not really that far from our home, I hadn't been to the refuge since I was in grade school on a class field trip (my word, that's TWENTY years ago!!) and the place has changed quite a bit. The new boardwalk is very cool and the visitor's center is quite nice too. The kids really enjoyed it. I'm sure this time I'll be back again before another twenty years go by.  (By the way, Jake came too, he was just stuck in the stroller the whole time and didn't get his picture taken. :)
