Abby: "You mean early in the morning like after breakfast and after I get up?"
Me: "No, he'll be gone long before breakfast. He has to leave when it's still dark out and when everyone is still asleep."
Abby: "I don't want him to leave that early! I would miss him!"
Me: "That's sweet Abby. You should tell Daddy how much you love him and will miss him. He would like to hear that."
Abby:
Abby: "Mommy, do you have a baby in your tummy?"
Abby: "No. You don't look really fat like when Jakey was in your tummy. Mommy, are you skinny?"
Me: "Um, not really. I'm not really skinny or fat right now."
Abby: "Yeah, you're just a mommy right now."
A few moments later...
Me: "Nope. But some day when you get older and get married, you can have your own children."
Abby: "But only if God gives me a husband first. That's how it works, right?"
The kids had disappeared into our bedroom and it was quiet for a few minutes so I went to check on them. I found them like this:
I asked what they were up to. Abby answered, "We're playing Mommy and Daddy trying to get some sleep."
Everyone had recently got up for the morning and I was sitting on the couch nursing Jake. I told Kevin (who was in the kitchen starting breakfast) that Jake had done very well the night before, sleeping a whole 6-hours straight and skipping his typical 2:30am feeding. Abby was sitting on the couch next to me and remarked, "Wow, I didn't know Jakey knew how to skip!"
