As has happened every time (I think) we've visited the cousins in Oregon since Abby's been born, we've come back with a certain unwanted gift. Colds. It's simply inevitable with that many little cousins for there not to be at least one with a cold at all times. =) Abby started feeling poorly Sunday morning and by Sunday night she had a fever, chills, runny nose and cough. Ick. And not to be left out, yesterday I developed a very sore throat that has turned into the full-blown cold today. Double ick. Thank goodness Ben's immune system seems to be stronger than Abby's and mine, as he just has a cough and is only a little bit stuffy (last time we all got colds, he was affected the least as well). Oh, and for those of you who have been envious of my daughter's long hair when your baby girl is bald or has very short hair, know that gobs of snot getting in the long hair all day and night long is not fun to deal with. ;o)
Anyway, we don't have TV or watch many movies around here, but we do get Netflix (the one-at-a-time plan). We started watching old Andy Griffith Show episodes during the first few weeks after Abby was born. We are now on the final season. When Abby was younger, she had no interest in watching the show, except for the intro and close when the theme song is whistled. Even before she could talk, she would attempt to immitate the whistling with squeaking, hitting the first few notes right on key...well pretty much on key. ;o) As she got a little older, she noticed that Netflix movies arrived in the bright red envelopes, and whenever we got the mail and she spotted the red envelope she would break out into her version of the Andy Griffith theme song.

I originally was going to hold out letting her watch TV until she was 2-years-old (because of the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation against it), but over the last few months I've relaxed the rule a bit when it comes to the Andy Griffith Show. So about once or twice a week, Abby gets to see Andy Griffith with us and she loves it! Occasionally, she will even ask to watch it by saying, "Watch Andy Griffy," and brings me the red envelope. So adorable!
By now, you are probably trying to figure out what in the world that first paragraph about us being sick had to do with all this talk about the Andy Griffith Show. Well, not a whole lot actually, except that while Abby's been sick the TV rule was relaxed even further and we've enjoyed cuddling on the couch together watching several episodes of Andy Griffith, or "Andy Griffy" as Abby says. =)

I love that she is associating the red Netflix envelope with the show. She will be very upset once you order something else! :)
Andy Griffith is the only show I watch and it's right up there with Adventures in Odyssey in my top favorites.
We've stuck to the no-tv-until-2 rule, too, except when Luke wasn't quite 2 yet (more like 1 1/2) and we snuggled on the couch and watched a little "Noggin" (a tv channel for preschoolers). I'm pretty sure he'll turn out ok. :o) I wish I could hear Abby's version of the song! Sounds too cute.
sharing is caring when it comes to sickie germs....I suppose! Since sunday we have all been battling it, too. no fun. it's 'enjoyable' to snuggle up with the sickie toddlers, but babies being sick arent so enjoyable :(
