Nursing Pillows

Before Abby was born, I was on the lookout for a Boppy nursing pillow at the suggestion of several friends. Right away, I found a nice one at a garage sale and snatched it up at a great price. Later in the summer, I was at another garage sale where a mom tried over and over to talk me into buying her nursing pillow, which was called My Brest Friend. I'd never heard of this pillow and since I'd heard so many rave reviews about the Boppy, I kept telling her no thanks. She continued to pester me and went on and on about how much better the My Brest Friend pillow was than the Boppy. Finally, she told me she would sell it to me for only a $1 because she knew I would love it. Of course, I gave in for $1 - who wouldn't?

Well, I wish I could thank her now, because she was right. My Brest Friend is way better than the Boppy pillow. It provides support all the way around, it doesn't slide out of place, it provides a much firmer and wider "platform" for baby to lie on and keeps baby from rolling inward as happens with the Boppy, and I found it to be especially helpful when baby is newborn age. I love how it stays in place and gives back support too. My only complaint is that the velcro tab on mine is extraordinarily loud and wakes my baby up when I undo it so I end up carrying baby to the bassinet with it still on and then take it off. I noticed on the website that the pillows are now made with a "silent release strap" - apparently I was not the only one not liking the loud velcro!

Anyway, after a few days of using the Boppy pillow with Abby, I tried out My Brest Friend and never went back to the Boppy again. With Benjamin, I've ended up using the Boppy daily, but not for nursing....I found that the Boppy makes a perfect seat to sit on while my underside heals! And Calvin has decided that it's pretty comfortable to lounge in as well. =)

Glad you have found a combination that works well. I have heard of those pillows...I have a boppy and it worked well with Coleson but I generally used it more to prop him up for "wake time" and used a regular pillow to nurse -so maybe same idea as the brest friend... (But really only used a pillow the first couple of weeks...) That was a dollar well spent, I'd say!

The boppy is also good when covered with a blanket to act as a prop under babies for pictures. I never used it for nursing, but I use it for pictures all the time. I have also heard the Brest Friend is great.

I bought a Boppy and used it twice. It was just too much hassle and I decided I didn't need it. But I have used it for Everly learning to sit up.

that is one amazing bargain! those pillows are expensive- when i worked in postpartum doing lactation, those were the pillows we used for moms. so nice! i have used the same boppy for all 3 kids now- helps protect my back while nursing (and am using it right now =). you can sell yours on craigslist someday and make a profit =)
