Big News!!

Abby used her potty chair for the first time! Yay! For several weeks now she's been periodically asking to sit on her potty chair (an insert that fits onto the toilet), but this afternoon was the first time she actually went to the bathroom on it.

At the risk of giving out too much information =), this is how it went: as I was getting Abby out of her high chair from lunch, she said, "Abby P-U!" which is how she tells us she has a poopy diaper that needs changing. I whipped her up onto the changing table but her diaper was empty so I guessed that she was instead telling me that she needed to go poop. So, I brought her into the bathroom, set her on her potty chair, and a few seconds later I heard some plops. =) I quickly called Kevin in and we both made many excited exclamations to encourage Abby. A few minutes later she said, "All done!" so we helped her down and were very surprised to see the large amount of poop in the toilet (I told you this was too much information, but the whole thing is so funny to me that I have to tell it...).

At first I didn't believe that Abby could have gone that much or made (how shall I say this?) such large-sized logs for such a little girl (mind you, I've only seen her poop smooshed all over her little bottom before!). My nephews Stephen and Ted were here and I quickly went out to the kitchen and asked if either of them had recently taken a dump and forgotten to flush. They both said no and then Kevin quickly pointed out to me that if someone else had gone to the bathroom there would have been toilet paper left in the toilet as well! So, finally, I had to agree that it was Abby's poop. It was quite comical at the time that it took me so long to be convinced she'd really done it. =)

Kevin and I were brimming with pride that our little girl had used the toilet for the first time; my nephews thought we were crazy. I never knew that as a parent I would be so proud and excited for my child to reach this milestone - I guess maybe 19 1/2 months of changing diapers might have something to do with it! =)

The picture below shows Abby's most recent favorite position to go poop in. She'll be playing with her toys and then all of a sudden she'll lie down on her stomach...and soon a stinky aroma fills the room. I much prefer the toilet method and hope that Abby will continue to want to use her potty chair! =)

.....I hope Abby doesn't get really mad at me someday when she's older for posting all the details of her first potty experience!

It is monumental. Catch her while she's still compliant and you could be diaper-less soon!

That is great, Sara! Yes, we have also had the same joyful feeling over Coleson's poop, it's wonderful to be a parent, eh!? hah!

That would be wonderful if she could stick with it! My boys tried it early and the attention from it wasn't enough for them to keep doing it unfortunately. Josh was 3.25 and Jake will be turnig 3 in a few weeks and making him go on the potty is concidered crewl and unusual punishment (that and washing hair...)
