Sick Again

So, I spent the week sick again. Sometime in March, Kevin and I discussed the fact that neither of us had gotten sick through the winter and how great that was....obviously we spoke too soon. For the last four weeks we've been battling illnesses off and on. But through it all, our precious daughter has been bringing us smiles and joy.

Last night, I finally got around to checking my throat with a flashlight and found some white spots on my swollen tonsils. I called Kevin (who was holding Abby) into the bathroom to show him. Concerned, I checked Kevin's throat (all clear) and then asked him how in the world would we know if Abby had a sore throat. I jokingly held up the flashlight to her mouth, and much to my surprise she opened her mouth partway and made an "aahh"-type sound! It was so adorable! She did it several more times after I showed her again. Of course, I never could see her throat due to her tongue being in the way, but it was so cute to see her copy us. It's amazing what she picks up on already.

Over the past few days, I've suspected that Abby has learned to kiss. Today, I knew for sure that she was "kissing" and it wasn't just coincidence. We were sitting on the couch and I was giving her kiss after kiss on her chubby little cheeks. Then she lean toward me (with mouth hanging open and drool glistening) and pressed her mouth against my cheek. I kissed her again. She "kissed" me. This went back and fourth about five times. It was so precious! To be honest, I never thought I'd enjoy the slobbery kiss of a baby, but it's so different with your own child. It's amazing the way she has worked herself into our hearts.

Speaking of drool, not long ago Aunt Debbie taught Abby to make "raspberry" noises with her mouth that end up being quite slobbery for Abby. She regularly does this now (sometimes with her tongue, sometimes without), in response to another person and on her own. Here she is in her exersaucer, with drool running down her chin making silly noises:

And I had to include this picture too since it shows off her two little teeth so well!

Hopefully, next week will not find us sick. Four weeks is quite enough! Oh, to be healthy and well again!

I love baby kisses! Mandy just started kissing too. I think I could market those sweet slobbery kisses and sell them for big bucks-- age defying, joy enhancing, magic solution to all your woes.

I like Abby's drool. She's so cute when she does the raspberry thing back at us!
