Not So Fun Walks

I really like to go on walks. It's nice to get fresh air, it's a good way to stay healthy...and it used to be something fun to do with Abby. Unfortunately, the last two walks have not turned out too well. About half-way through both walks, Abby started fussing and soon began wailing. The first one, I went alone and ended up carrying my daughter in one arm and pushing the stroller with the other arm for about a mile and up a steep hill - not something I recommend. The second walk, I was with my mom so thankfully she pushed the stroller while I carried Abby. This is definitely not something I want to repeat again. The first time around, I thought that maybe Abby was too tired or that I went onto a high-traffic road where the cars scared her or that the sidewalk was too bumpy. Well, the second time we "fixed" all these things, but it didn't help. It seems that Abby just doesn't like riding in the stroller for long walks anymore. I have never heard of a baby not liking walks in the stroller. In fact, I've heard of parents who take their babies on walks just to get them to fall asleep! I sure hope this is a just phase that Abby is going through and will change for the better soon. Has anyone else had a problem with this?

Daniel prefers to be carried than ride in a stroller, as well. I use an infant carrier, so my hands are free for the other two!

weird!! Silly girl! Have you tried having her sit in the stroller like a "big girl" or maybe you already do that? I know that by 4 months since Coleson was sitting up on his own he didnt want to lounge in the carrier-hooked onto the stroller. Same with in the grocery cart. Mmm!

Kristal - thanks for the adivce, but Abby hasn't enjoyed lounging in her carseat hooked onto the stroller for months already! It was worth a thought though!

Michelle - Yes, I guess that is the only option if she doesn't improve. A few of my friends have the ErgoBaby carrier and I tried it out one time and Abby loved it...but it's so expensive! The cheapy one I have wears my back out pretty fast and is a pain to get on and off.

The only carrier I have found that I like is a Moby. All the front packs and slings I have tried hurt my back. The Moby spreads out over all of your back and shoulders. I have never tried an ErgoBaby, so I can't comment on that one...

How are the walks going now?

Check Craigslist for the Ergo pack or there is also a consignment shop in Olympia that carries them new (downtown).
Emma went through a stage where she didn't like walks too, but she was a little older. Since we are out in the country, I just walked anyway. It only lasted a few weeks and then she realized mommy was going to be outside and so was she.
Good luck and I hope you have some happier walks.

All my kids wanted to be held. No contraption pleased. I can't tell you how many times I've been in your shoes, but pushing a double stroller(or grocery cart)with my pregnant belly while carrying 2 kiddos! When Josh was 6 mos. I did the march of dimes walk (about 5 miles) he screamed in his jogging stroller so I ened up running it, and he seemed to calm down, probably 'cuz yhe cold air was whooshing in his face :)

Wow, thanks for all the advice and for sharing your own experiences, everyone! I had no idea so many other babies didn't like the stroller. I've seen so many moms out and about with babies/kids just hanging out or sleeping in the stroller that I had thought Abby was an abnormalty - apparently she's not! On our walk yesterday, Abby cried off and on the whole time. I think I'm going to take Alysun's advice for awhile and just tough it out and see if she improves...
