This afternoon the big two kiddos and I had a fun and unusual adventure together: SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding)! A friend I'd met when I used to attend a mom's group at my parents church had started a Women's Adventure Club over the summer that I have been apart of but had yet to attend an event. So, when I saw the meetup for a free class for SUP, I knew I had to try it out. Abby and I had so much fun together. She was a little scared at first, but by the end she was asking if she could stand up too! I had a few moments of minor-panic when the board wobbled a bit too much (or Abby moved around too much!) and thought I might lose my balance, but otherwise it was not very difficult to do and lots of fun.
After we got back from our little trip, Ben decided that he DID want to go. I had my doubts (he's pretty much a scaredy-cat when it comes to trying new things), and sure enough he started crying almost immediately and wanted off. But then as Abby and I started paddling away, he changed his mind again and actually just started wading right out into the water (in his long pants!) trying to come after us. I swung around and lifted him up. After that he did much better, as long as we didn't go too fast, I didn't stand up (actually that was a prerequisite before he would even get on! :), and we didn't go too far from shore. We had fun spotting a few schools of minnows in the water and Ben thought it great trying to help me paddle. Right at the end as we were almost back to shore, Abby unexpectedly stood up for a bit and then walked toward the end of the board where she hopped into the water and got off - the wobbling she caused terrified Ben and he started to scream his head off in typical Benny fashion. :) But, really, I am quite proud of him as I NEVER expected him to even want to try it.
