Birthday Girl

Abby turned 3 this past Thursday. At her request, we celebrated her special day by having dinner at Red Robin followed by a pink cake with a kitty on it at our house. Not that she's necessarily a big fan of the food at Red Robin (I am though! :), but one time we happened to be there when an employee dressed up like Red Robin and she's talked about it ever since. I found out that the bird comes out every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8pm, and so Abby has been excited for weeks (maybe even months) about getting to go to Red Robin on her birthday and see the bird. On our way there, I said, "Well, I hope the schedule hasn't changed since I asked about it, or that the bird is home sick!"

As we waited for our food, I asked our server why we hadn't seen Red Robin walking around yet. Unbelievably, she told us that the gal who dresses up as the bird was home sick! As I lamented the irony, I told our server how much Abby had been looking forward to it for her birthday. Our server told us she would see if something could be done. Later, she updated us that they found someone willing to put on the costume but were still trying to find some extra tights (apparently, the "regular" gal takes them home to wash them!). Well, we had to wait a little longer once our meal was done, but Red Robin finally made his long-awaited appearance and I think the staff saw that it was worth every bit of trouble!

Abby overjoyed to see Red Robin and have him sing Happy Birthday to her.

She was so happy! It definitely made Abby's day and I don't know if I've ever seen her smile so much! Kudos to the Red Robin staff for going out of their way to make a little customer happy. :) She also received the complimentary birthday Sundae dessert, which she proceeded to eat every bite on her own, even draining the glass to get every last drop of melted ice cream.

Back at home, Abby opened up some gifts and we shared her kitty cake.

And more dessert! (yes, she had a bit of a tough time sleeping that night because of all that sugar!).

Other than the fact that having a party on Thursday meant that those who worked the next day got home kind of late (extra thanks to Kevin's parents who drove over from the coast!), the party was a huge success. Abby loved every second of it and the guests loved watching her enjoyment and got lots of laughs over her many silly antics. One of the funniest was when she asked, "Can I maybe have some more cake?" Yeah, right! :)

Gotta LOVE when people are willing to help out like that. That Red Robin story is priceless!

I have made a few Hello Kitty cakes myself for birthdays. It seems like a couple of years in a row that is all either of my girls wanted. :)

Love 3-year-old parties! Abby is so precious. I love the great Red Robin Story. That's some good customer service. Last time we were there, we were not impressed (Salem). But as always, the food was delicious.
