Mission Accomplished

We took the non-hurried, sometimes child-initiated, sometimes parent-led approach to potty training with Abby - not necessarily by planned decisions, it just kind of all happened that way. We started letting her sit on the toilet just over a year ago in January when she started showing interest (see here), but nothing much happened. Then Ben came along in May, and all thoughts of potty-training went out the window as I was busy caring for a newborn and Kevin was gone fishing all the time. In June, Abby again showed interest and went to the bathroom for the first time in the toilet with a potty-chair insert (see here). But still being overwhelmed with caring for Ben, I didn't have much time to invest in potty-training. Finally, fall rolled around and we got more serious about it. But then every time we thought we were getting close to the end, somehow Abby would revert back and have issues again. And we never did give any rewards (other than praise and encouragement, of course) because I never could make up my mind whether that was a good idea or not!

For the past couple months, when asked, I would respond that Abby was about 75-80% potty trained. It was frustrating because I knew she was capable of 100%. And then finally, it happened. Over the last seven days - this entire week - Abby only had one accident! Yes, I do believe we have finally arrived! She has even stayed dry every night and went potty at Grandma's and at church with no problems. The only things left we have to work on are making the complete switch over to underwear from Pull-Ups (Daddy is the main problem here - he doesn't like the thought of accidents occurring...ever =) and getting over her fear of unfamiliar public restroom toilets. Hurray for Abby!

hooray! If Mandy could master the #2, we would be there too. Ah, for only one in diapers. Nice work, Abby (and mom).

PS We use plastic pants alot, over underwear. Mandy just pees in pull-ups because they are like diapers. The plastic pants give me and my car seats and sofa peace of mind. :)

Yay for her (and you)! Entering the world of underwear full time will clinch the deal!... if she is staying dry there shouldnt be an issue with accidents, just have to GO for it! ;) I found that it helped Coleson to really idtentify with the need to go. (and yay for nighttime happening at the same time. I was thankful for that, too!)

Aw, what a nice feeling, huh, at least till the reality comes that you have to do it yet again...agh. and with a boy next time-it's a whole new ballgame with boys! hehe!

Congratulations to you all! That must feel like quite the accomplishment, and a relief. Cute blue outfit too. :)
I think Kaylee is showing some interest, but I haven't heard if there has been any progress....
