Watching Calvin going into his house
What solidified in my mind that Abby had reached the sitting up milestone was the fact that not long after sitting on the living room floor she also showed me that she had outgrown her infant bouncer seat. When I put her in it so I could start making dinner, I turned around for a few moments and looked back to see this:
Abby was no longer content to lean back against the seat, but instead sat up straight...even though it made it a bit more difficult to play with the toys that were now in her face. =)
Over the last few weeks since Abby got her first tooth, we've attributed any out of the ordinary fussiness to teething. Obviously, I'm sure not all her fussiness is due to teething, but it's a good catch-all category for when we can't figure anything else out! Well, this afternoon we chalked up to teething her unwillingness to nap and her demand to be held...this time we were actually right - for, lo and behold, her second tooth (the pair to her previous one on the bottom) appeared this evening! Hopefully, the worst of the fussiness is over and she will go to bed peacefully in a few minutes....

Yup, I second your sitting milestone! Congrats! =) I learned the hard way when Coleson reached the point he needed to be fastened into the swing to eat(we used that before we got a highchair, he never really actually used the swinging motion!)whoops, out he came when he sat forward-so be careful!! ;)
Wow! Sbby's growing up so fast, already the second tooth and sitting up. Pretty soon she'll be turning over and crawling after Calvin. Guess Abby's almost ready for a high chair.

you are right sara- if you say she is sitting up- then she is! parents know =)
The milestones can be hard to identify the exact date. A few weeks down the road, you'll probably see her sitting with a straight back and think, "Now, that is sitting up."
She is miles ahead of Mandy though who can't/won't sit up even for 2 seconds. I've never known a baby to roll over both ways and scoot/crawl before she can sit up.
Mandy also doesn't have any teeth! Way to go Abby. You have a lot more pain to go through in the next few months (mom and baby).
How fun! Daniel is sitting up now, too! A whole new perspective on life for them!
5 months is when Kylie sat up too - and I used the same definition of sitting. In fact, we had her 5 pictures taken sitting up (or slumping over without falling over) unassisted. So much fun!
