(from this summer) Jake wanted to give baby a kiss, but paused right before kissing my tummy and asked, "Wait, where is baby's cheek?"
As we were sitting around the kitchen table having lunch and talking
about cousin Aiden who had come over earlier, Jake said, "He was using
that white Christian as a ramp." Huh?? We were stumped and all of us
tried guessing what he was trying to say. He again repeated it and
pointed into the living room.Abby laughed and said, "Jake, it's called a
cushion, not a Christian!"
and she goes and holds up the white cushion from the bench by the front
window which Aiden had been driving the hot wheels cars on like a ramp.
(more recently) Jake was holding a sheet of stickers in his hand with a thoughtful look on his face, then he asked me, "Do sticker bushes really have stickers on them?"
We were watching a documentary about influential men in America's past when it mentioned that Andrew Carnegie was two years behind schedule on getting a bridge built. Abby said to me, "TWO YEARS behind schedule?!? Wow, Mama, you are usually only a few MINUTES behind schedule!"
Jake gave me a big kiss and said, "When I kiss you, it makes me wish Daddy was home for the winter."
I tucked Jake in for his nap and told him I might be in later to snuggle with him after I got done feeding Lizzy. He said, "Snuggling is when you put your arm around someone like this!" and he stretched his arm out to his side over an imaginary person lying next to him on the bed.
Jake's been having some problems with constipation. I left him on the toilet for a few minutes and he called that he was done. There was nothing in the toilet, so I asked him if he pushed. He replied, "Yes....actually me AND my intestines pushed."
Jake requested a favorite truck sweatshirt to wear that is visibly small on him. Trying to prepare him for me having to soon take it away from him, I said as I put it on him,"Jake, this sweatshirt is getting too small for you." "NO!" he said. At first I thought he was being obstinate, but then he added, "It's not getting too small; I'm getting too big!" Very true. :)
Kevin was talking to Jake about some discipline issue and said, "Were you confused, Jake?" "Yes," Jake replied, and then paused, "What is confused?"
