The next really hot day we went out to the beach, where it was still quite warm and almost too hot there as well! So crazy for spring in the NW!
There are always so many more treasures to find on the beach in the spring because of the ocean currents and many spring storms. It was so much fun for the kids! Kevin's mom met us at the beach and we enjoyed a lovely afternoon at the beach together.
Afterwards, we headed down to the dock area in order to see Kevin who was busy working. He literally only spent about five minutes with us, before he said he had to get back to work. At this point, he was planning to leave for the Alaska for the summer and he was furiously working around the clock to get some projects done on the boat. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on which factor you look at!), the Alaska plans fell through and he is no longer going this summer.
Since Daddy was too busy to spend time with us we wandered down the other end of the marina to check out our Seafood Store. The kids loved watching the crab crawl around in the live crab tank.
At Kevin's suggestion, we asked for some smoked salmon (perks for being one the owners' family!) and our long-time store manager, Rich, also treated us to one of the store's new ready-to-eat offerings: calamari salad. It was delicious! An bit of an Asian flavoring and a little spicy....I wasn't even sure what all was in there, but was definitely good and I highly recommend it! :)
Abby was excited to spot our line of tuna stacked above the display case and Ben was quite intrigued with the ice-making machine. :)
The kids just kept wanting to explore, so we headed to the very end of the marina to the new(er) look-out tower that we hadn't been up to yet. It is really quite lovely. They've made lots of improvements to Westport over the last few years and it's coming together nicely.
The view from the top was amazing - the whole marina and Grays Harbor with the Olympic mountains in the distance on one side and the beautiful ocean and Half-Moon Bay on the other side. Gorgeous!
They stopped on a bench and asked for a photo. These two are the bestest of best friends. :)
On our way home, we grabbed some fast food for dinner and then took it to a park we'd been eying in Aberdeen. The park is right along the riverfront across from the sawmill, making the setting and the warm evening a perfect end to our fun day.
