Burfoot Park

In mid-March on a particularly warm day, we headed down to Burfoot Park for the evening with my mom. It had been quite a long time since I'd been there. In fact, I racked my brain trying to think of the last time I was at Burfoot until it hit me....it had been 13 years ago when Kevin proposed to me there! How could I forget?! After I realized that, it was kind of sad to me that Kevin hadn't make it home from Westport in time to go with us and that we took my mom instead. Oh well, we still had a very lovely evening and it was fun for me to show Abby the spot where Kevin had buried my ring in a bottle in the sand and where he got down on one knee to ask me to be his wife.

The hike down to the water was gorgeous - the sun shining through moss-laden trees. The mud wasn't too bad, but you could definitely tell it was still early spring!

Once we made it down to the waterfront, the sun unfortunately hid in a hazy evening sky, but it was still fairly warm out. The kids LOVED the waterfront; I can't believe I'd not taken them there yet - they can't wait to go back!

Abby and Ben spotted some bubbles coming up in the sand and tried to dig for clams with the flimsy plastic shovel. It was so cute how nicely they were sharing the shovel together.

After awhile, a boat drove by and the ripples slowly lapped up on the shore. When Jake heard the sound of the "waves" he took off running away from the water in total fear. It was absolutely hilarious. I tried to explain to him that the waves were just little ones from the boat and that there were no large waves here like there were at the ocean beach. He just didn't get it. :)

Kevin later had some photoshop fun with this picture. :)
