Daddy's Home!

A couple days ago, the kids and I were out blowing bubbles in the front yard anxiously awaiting Daddy's arrival. When he pulled up, he was smothered in hugs and kisses even though he was dirty and stinky. We all hung out in the yard for awhile just enjoying each other until the kids needed to head in for nap time.

We haven't seen much of Kevin recently and we've really been missing him. Lately, his schedule has been going like this: leave the dock in the evening; drive the boat all night out to the fishing grounds (up to 100 miles away); fish for tuna the following two days until the boat is full; drive back to the dock during the night; unload and sell the fish in the morning; fill up with ice, fuel and bait to get ready for the next round. At that point he would either head back to Olympia for the afternoon to see us, take a shower and restock food supplies (but then have to head back to Westport around 7pm to start the cycle again), or if there were boat repairs/work that needed to be done, he'd work on it all afternoon and wouldn't get a chance to come home. So basically, we see him every third day for a few hours, or sometimes not until every sixth day.

Anyway, for the first time in several weeks he actually got a complete day off because of some bad weather that made it too rough to fish the next day (side note: bad weather for fishing has NOTHING to do with the rain or the sun; it's all about the wind the result on the wave height). So, even though most of Kevin's time was spent in his study catching up on business paperwork, we very much enjoyed having him at home for an entire day. So rare during this time of the season. We are looking forward to the end of fishing season...in mid-October. Yup, still a ways to go but getting closer. And thankfully for us, there are a lot more too-stormy-to-fish days that occur in September and October than in July and August. :)
