Becoming Friends

As Ben gets older, Abby and he enjoy their play time together more and more. Unfortunately, there's also more fighting, toy-stealing, and poking going on now, but we're working on that (any good advice for fostering friendship and kindness between siblings?). It's been fun for me to be able to step back now that Ben doesn't need as much protecting and watch them figure out ways to play together. A favorite is sharing rides on the dump truck.

Squeezing in for a shared car ride in the backyard.

Having a tea party together (I doubt Ben knew that's what he was doing as he slobbered all over the cups and on his table, but that's definitely what Abby told me they were doing :)

Outings are becoming more fun too, as Ben moves from babyhood into toddler hood and the two kids can enjoy the new experiences and adventures together.

Oh, cute pictures. I love the friendship part of siblings. But you are right, the fighting goes right along with it. I'm not sure there is any way to get rid of it completely at this point since their communication isn't perfect. For my children, there are certain things that are not allowed: no hurtful or aggressive actions, no screaming, no name calling. Those offenses are punished and then it's back to play. It gets easier as they get older.

Mark has always been so awesome at encouraging Zane (as the older) to love and treat his sister sweetly- from the get go really. It has helped, tho by no means perfect. I do love this side of siblings- the friendship part. makes me want to have 100 kids!
