UPDATE: Thanks for the tips! Since implementing the "change in direction" =) we haven't had a single leak! Yay!
We're having a bit of a diaper problem with Ben and I am hoping that one of you moms out there can offer some advice. The problem is this: about 8 out of 10 diapers we go through end up leaking (totally not fun to have to wipe him down and change his whole outfit a gazillion times a day, not to mention the wasted expense of going through so many extra diapers). We've tried Huggies and Pampers, so the kind of diaper does not seem to be the problem. It is not the way the diaper is put on, because the leaking happens whether my mom, husband or I do the diaper change. Also, it is not that the diaper is so full that it is soaking through - the leaking has occurred within moments of us putting a clean diaper on. We've noticed that the potty always leaks out the sides. In fact, one time I put him on the changing table and was just about to change his diaper (which was medium wet and not saturated) when I heard him start to poop, so I waited a few moments for him to finish. As I watched him, potty started pouring out by his leg and up by his waist right above that same leg. The flow was so fast it was almost like the diaper wasn't even there! We never had this problem with Abby. The occasional poop up the back, yes. And the too soaked diaper leaking through, yes. But never potty just pouring out of the diaper. So the only other explanation I can think of is that maybe this is a baby boy problem??? I don't know. Please help me out!

This is quite a common complaint with baby boys. A friend of mine asked for advice about the same problem and all the moms in the group with boys just chuckled. Apparently you can chuckle about this later...
It's called-a penis ;) I wasnt sure either why Coleson would leak till my mom told me I needed to point his penis down..! ah ha! Problem fixed! Maybe try doing that... hope it helps!
just to claify...so when putting on the diaper you point 'it' down and then put the diaper on. It should help. Another friend had the same problem till she did that too. There are lots of little things like that with little boys ... it's a whole new world! ;)
Yep...common problem. I tried about 5 or 6 kinds of diapers with my first boy and found only Pampers Swaddlers worked for him, till he reached size 2. At that point, even the generic store brands worked. My advice for you is this...make sure you pull out the sides of the diaper in the crucial area (if it is tucked in at all, they tend to leak), try more kinds (one friend found LUVS worked for her, another the Costco brand), and make sure he is pointing down. It seemed to me with both my boys that this was a short stage, that lasted less than three months. In the mean time, keep up the good work...this too will pass! In a few years, Ben won't be in diapers at all!!
i concur with the position being the probable issue. i was thinking that as i was reading your post. those boys like to make it tricky for us girls =).
As I recall I warned you of this in the re:boy clothes e-mail, and you thought you had too many clothes ;) It happens. A size bigger wrapped tighter helps. With my boys the terrible poop messes are more controlled after 6 months. Peeing up and over happens every day to every boy of mine. There is rarely a morning that my all my boys are put in the bath a.s.a.p. after waking up while I strip everyone's sheets. Yes, EVERY morning I do a load of bedding. Woohoo for boys!
Hi! My mom just pointed me to your blog. Congratulations on the new baby! It's a neat coincidence that our second babies were born almost the same day (Talya was born on May 9th). Here's what our life looks like lately: http://flickr.com/gp/fletzet/Bn349y I haven't seen you in forever; it's fun to see your blog. take care, Elizabeth
