June Activities

We went on a field trip with a homeschooling group up to the Pierce College Science Dome and saw a really neat presentation on the solar system that was targeted at preschoolers - the kids LOVED, LOVED it! Afterwards, we went to a nearby park to eat our lunch with some friends and then we ended up relocating to a park on the water to play since it was such a hot day! The Steilacoom beach park had such a gorgeous view where we moms could enjoy the mountains, islands and the comings and goings of the Anderson Island Ferry. The kids especially enjoyed the many trains that passed by!

The following day, the kids and I went the Duck Dash for the first time ever. I'd been wanting to go for years, but we always had something going on. It was fun to see the thousands of rubber ducks being dumped into the Tumwater Falls.

And then, of course, Ben insisted we had to follow the ducks down the trail alongside the river. :) We ran into Aunt Deb and Aiden on the trail! :)

Then we headed back up the trail and the kids played at the park for awhile.

Abby creatively wrote the word "ducks" in the sand with some sticks she collected.

On another day, we had my parents over for dinner and then spontaneously invited them to go with us over to West Bay Park. The kids love throwing rocks into the water there. There was a large ship, loaded up with lumber across the inlet.

Abby always enjoys hearing the echo of her voice in this spot:

Ben brought his rocket launcher he got for his birthday and even Grandpa had fun trying it out and was pretty impressed with how high the rockets flew (the black thing in the picture is my dad's cell phone flying out of his pocket when he stomped!) .

The next week, we enjoyed an afternoon visit from my cousin Jayne and her children. We went over to the park next to our house for part of the time. Jake and Tabitha had a blast playing with some cars that another child had brought to the park and the older boys (and various other kids at the park!!) had fun with Ben's rocket launcher. I was proud of Ben for sharing so well, even with total strangers!

Since Kevin's plan to head to Alaska all fell through, we have enjoyed having him home more than we expected. He has still been crazy-busy with boat projects and has gone salmon fishing several times, often staying out in Westport for most of the week, but we are thankful for any evening he does come home! Twice he brought home salmon to us. Abby, Kevin and I LOVED it....the boys did not - but that's okay, it means more for us! ;o) I always say that if Kevin ever gets out of the fishing industry, I will really miss eating seafood because we would never be able to afford it! He said that the king fillet he brought home would have cost about $40 at the store and we ate it in one sitting! Crazy! And although the boys did not enjoy tasting the salmon, they did enjoy watching Daddy fillet it. :)

When Kevin does come home, he tries to fit in at least a few minutes of work on his shed office. It is literally an hour or two from being done and we are almost ready to start moving in the books! Yay! The kids love it when he is doing something that they can help with too. In the picture below, Kevin has finished sanding the floor and Jake is sweeping and Abby and Ben are putting wood glue in the cracks.

As always, there's was a good deal of reading going on around here. This was one of the kids' first experiences with a comic book. It was interesting to listen in on their reading and hear their giggles. :)

We also had a garage sale in June. Lots of work, but it really helped to motivate me to go through a lot of things that I'd been putting off. Now to just find that motivation again so that I can get more things in order before baby arrives in only six weeks! Yikes, time is flying!
