Daddy's Home

There was a story that my mom read to me when I was little called "Daddy's Home!" In it, a young girl hears her daddy arrive and exuberantly cries, "Daddy's home, Daddy's home!" as she scurries to get his favorite slippers and to welcome him with a great big hug.

A very similar situation occurs around here when my kids' daddy arrives home (sans slippers :). And considering that their daddy is usually gone much longer than one work day as the girl's dad in the story, they are beyond ecstatic see him! Jake is usually the one to cry the loudest, "Daaa-deeeee!" and all three crowd around to hug and kiss him. I've read in marriage books about husband's kissing their wives before the children to show that their relationship is first, and as nice as that sounds, that just ain't going to happen around here. :) Because there's nothing stopping these kiddos from showering their daddy with love the second he walks in the door when they've missed him for so long! And when he's been gone for a couple months, with only a day or two home every couple weeks in there, the love keeps on coming the whole time he's home. :)

Jake especially enjoys snuggling with his daddy and can frequently be heard asking, "Snuggle, Daddy!" and then heads over to the couch with his blankie for some good snuggle time. Daddy is happy to oblige.

Last week Kevin was home for six days because of big storm. Of course, he had boat work in Westport for a couple days and we had to leave him alone quite a bit while he caught up on paperwork in his study, but he was HOME every night and many meal times and lots of play time in between. We felt downright spoiled, and it made it even harder than usual to say goodbye when he headed back out to sea. This should be his last trip of the tuna season and we are thankful. Because as fun as it is to welcome Daddy home, we'd prefer him to stay home. :)
