Today I took the big kids out to play while Jacob took his morning nap. We were sad not to be able to go sledding at the park yesterday or today, but I can't do it by myself and Kevin's been working in Westport on the boat getting ready for crab season which opens on Saturday (well, technically it opens on Sunday, but they're allowed to dump the pots on Saturday, weather-permitting of course). Anyway, our time outside did not begin well. Ben was in one of his "moods" - he cried for me to come pick him up because the snow was too deep, he didn't want me to pull him too fast on the sled, etc, etc.
Finally, he got out of his funk once he joined Abby in eating the snow (one of her favorite things to do). In fact, as I stopped pulling the sled so I could snap a picture, they just kept reaching down to grab handfuls of snow to eat instead of smiling for me! In the background of the picture you can see what surprised us when we went outside: a giant tree branch had fallen down.
You can see how the entire middle of my beautiful dogwood is gone now. :o(

Since we are supposed to get up to 10 more inches tonight, it's possible Kevin will get snowed in tomorrow and then maybe we go sledding as a family! And just for the record, my official measurement late this morning was 11 inches:
