First Word

For quite some time now, Jake has made the sounds, "Mamamama," and "Dadadada," but it's always hard to tell if he is really trying to say Mama and Dada, or if they are just sounds to him. Two times the honor of the "first word" had gone to me, but I do believe I have struck out with our third child. For a couple weeks now, Jakey has no-doubt-about-it made a certain sound when he sees a certain someone....Calvin, our cat. Yep, it looks like first word honors will go to "Kitty," or "iii-eee," as Jake says it.

Jake absolutely ADORES the cat. He is all smiles and giggles whenever he spots Calvin and he reserves his "iiii-eee"s to just when he's watching or petting the cat. Oh, and one time he said it when he saw a picture of another cat in a book (I think that solidifies it that he is really aware of and trying to say, "kitty."). Calvin, of course, being the unfriendly-with-kids type of cat, does not reciprocate Jake's feelings of affection.

He begrudgingly puts up with Jake's petting/pulling/poking for a few minutes and then leaves to a safer location.

That cat just does not understand what an honor it is to be to have the "first word" status bestowed upon him. :)

That's funny. Even with Rem's limited vocab at age 2, he also says kitty (more like titty). It's fun to see kids love animals so much.
