...on a beautiful, warm September day much like today, I married my best friend. These last 10 years have been full of ups and downs, but God is good and gracious and I look forward to the next 10 years, and the next after that, etc!

For a quick trip down memory lane, here are a few pictures I scanned today (turning 30 a couple months ago didn't make me feel old, but having to scan my pre-digital era wedding pics today sure did!).

And a few honeymoon pictures too!

Way back then, we did a lot of dreaming about the future as young couples often do. We had so much fun on our honeymoon cruise that we thought it would be great to celebrate our future 10-year anniversary with another cruise. We pictured ourselves done with our schooling, financially well off, and doing our dream jobs (Kevin teaching at a seminary and me at home with our children). But who knew that 10 years down the road we'd be financially struggling more than any time during our marriage? Who knew that Kevin would be FAR from completing his schooling and me still trying to finish "that one last class" in order to graduate? And who could have guessed that instead of enjoying time together on a cruise, our interaction on our 10-year anniversary consisted of a short phone conversation on Kevin's satellite phone that went something like this:

Sara: "Happy Anniversary, honey!"
Kevin: "Oh right! Happy Anniversary to you too!"
Sara: "Don't worry, I forgot, too, until Mom called me this morning. How's fishing today?"
Kevin: "Got about 25 so far, but we're hoping it will pick up soon. What are you up to?"
Sara: "I'm packing a lunch. It's a beautiful sunny day here and we thought we'd go out to Lattin's Cider Mill and Farm. Could be the last nice day in awhile; rain is in the forecast."
Kevin: "Then you should mow that side yard that's getting so long!"
Sara, dryly: "Um, no thanks. I'd rather celebrate our anniversary by going on a fun outing with the kids rather than mowing the lawn."
Kevin, laughing: "Okay, have fun celebrating our anniversary by going to the cider mill! Maybe we can go out to dinner the next time I come home."

Yep, real life 10 years down the road is so much different than what I'd dreamed. :o) But it's good. And we've found out that one of the absolute best and most satisfying parts of marriage is the three little blessings God has given us:

I think kids made you look even younger! :) Happy Anniversary! It's good to know that whatever journey God takes us down, it's always the best for us and will be worth it in the end, even if it was nowhere close to what we had hoped or imagined it would be. :)
