Our little Jakey reached 5-months yesterday. Honestly, so much has been going on these past few months that his birth seems ages ago already. And, as any parent with multiple children can attest, it's already become hard to remember what life was like before Jacob entered our lives. He fits right into our family and fills up a spot we never knew existed! God has blessed us so much already!
The 5-month details:
- He rolled over twice last week (from front to back).
- About two weeks ago I moved him from the bassinet to the playpen to give him more space (still in my room - during the summer it's basically just "my" room since Kevin's gone all the time). Several times I've found him on the opposite end and turned the other way - I don't even know how he moves around so much!
- He weighed in at 15 1/2 pounds at his 4-month appointment, which actually took place closer to 5 months.
- He's very ticklish under his arms.
- Overall, he's better at riding in the car but still puts up a good scream here and there (like all the way home from Seattle a few nights ago!) and doesn't like to fall asleep in his car seat.
- He seems to be teething (lots of drool and sucking/chewing on hands), but no visual sign of teeth yet (Abby got her first at 4 months).
- He can roll onto his side and grab a toy that's laying beside him to play with.
- Somehow, just by rocking back and forth and kicking his feet, he can move up to three feet from where I set him down! He pretty much never stays on the blanket I lay him on and a couple times moved himself from the carpet onto the kitchen linoleum. (Yes, I'm finally trusting Ben enough to put Jake on the floor now, but I still try to stay pretty close by.)
- He giggles and laughs when his brother and sister do silly things.
- He doesn't really like the camera. Actually, he doesn't like my face hiding behind the camera and sometimes gets scared and starts crying. So occasionally I have to take the picture without looking but that doesn't often work out too well either. The picture below captures both those elements - he's about to cry so I started shooting without looking, thus chopping some heads out of the pic!
- He seems quite interested in food already, carefully watching us eat and has even lunged toward a piece of food in my hand several times. As with the other children, my plan has been to hold off starting solids until 6 months (which is recommended and is statistically proven to lower chances of food allergies) but I'm not sure I'll be able to hold out a full month more! In fact, I have to admit that I did give him just a taste of watermelon the other day when he lunged for it. He loved it. :)
- He loves mirrors.
- He is definitely a cuddle bug. :)
(A self-portrait since I never get my picture taken with my kids!)
- Although his nighttime is pretty predictable (down around 10pm, up around 2am and 6am for feedings, and then up around 8am for the day), he still refuses to be nailed down to much of a schedule during the day. Some days I think we've finally got one going and then he changes it all up and wants to feed/sleep at odd times. Although it's not that big of a deal to me, it will be nice when we can get a better routine down. And, of course, dropping the nighttime feedings would be pretty awesome too. :oP
- He can do the hunched over almost-sitting up thing for several seconds at a time before he topples. :)
- He just makes me laugh and smile all the time because he is so silly, sweet and cute!

Happy 5-months-old, my sweet Jacob!
