I had really been hoping to get more response from my previous post on house cleaning, especially since I was being brutally honest about my lack of house cleaning skills....but I guess it's possible that most of my blog readers are natural born house cleaners and had no clue what I was talking about. Anyway, at the risk of many people being appalled at what I am about to reveal, I am happy to say that my bedroom is clean, neat and organized for the first time in YEARS. I even cleaned out all the dust bunnies out from under the bed. I know, impressive...well, at least for me. =) It has now become my favorite room in the house and I love to spend time in there (I even took the grocery ads in there the other day rather than go through them at the kitchen table!). The door remains open and I have no fears of anyone glancing in. Although it's only been a week since the entire transformation was completed, the room has stayed very neat and clean with almost no effort just like The House that Cleans Itself said it would. And I have real confidence that it will stay that way for the long-term too, since everything now has a place and I've fixed the "problem" areas. My husband is especially happy about the transformation, as our frequently messy bedroom has been a source of irritation for him since we married. I'm excited to try this method on other rooms in my house, but I'm forcing myself not to jump into too many projects as I really should be working on my schoolwork before the baby arrives...
On another house-keeping note, I'm happy that the results of my poll show that I am not the only one who doesn't clean their refrigerator as often as they probably should. With the exception of one of my friends who cleans hers weekly (she was too late to vote in the poll and left a comment under the previous post), 2 of you said you clean your fridge once a month and 6 said every few months. I try to go through all the food every other week before our garbage service comes, but to be honest I don't clean off all the shelving except every few months (which also means at that time I occasionally find a container of very moldy food that got stuck in the back somewhere). Anyway, the reason I posted that poll was because at the time that I read The House That Cleans Itself I was also reading Flylady's book entitled, Sink Reflections, which I promptly decided was not the house-cleaning method for me. Among other things that scared me away was the fact that she put cleaning the fridge in its entirety as part of the weekly cleaning schedule. Yikes! At first I was scared that everyone out there was cleaning their refrigerators far more often than I and that they would be disgusted to find out the truth about mine, but I am glad to see that the results of my oh-so-scientific poll show that I am actually closer to average. Kudos to you Kristal for cleaning your fridge weekly, but I'll stick with the rest of you and do it every month to every couple months. =)

Way to go getting your bedroom clean! I'm proud of you. :) I'm not bothered by the state of other people's homes unless it gets really really bad, and yours never gets there. Still, I understand wanting to keep things neat, even if it's just for your own sake and not that of visitors.
I'm pretty bad about housekeeping. I let things go, then freak out and spend an entire day or two just cleaning everything in sight. It stays nice and sparkly for a few days and then slowly reverts back to a cluttered mess. I try to keep the clutter to a level where I could clean up in an hour or two in a pinch, but it doesn't always work.
Good post Sara. I am so impressed with your clean bedroom. I am glad the ideas in the book helped you. It's amazing how a clean room really changes everyone's outlook.
I was definitely my most ambitious in the last part of my pregnancy with Mandy. I did more in month than the total time of my entire marriage. Keep up the good work.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... Oh, I'm still laughing about the thought of me being a "natural born house cleaner". Fear not, my bedroom doors are still closed, at least when anyone comes over.
I too, have checked out the flylady's stuff but didn;t find it to be a perfect fit either. I'm thinking of reading that book you just read now. :o)
Way to go, cleaner of the bedroom!! Doesn't it feel nice to have everything in its place?
For myself, I find I am better at PICKING UP than actually CLEANING UP!! =) I have a few hot spots that collect clutter, but try to keep the rest looking good. I can't hardly go to bed at night if I don't have all the toys in the living room picked up, and all the dishes done! Something that helps me is Motivated Moms. www.motivatedmoms.com It splits the housework into small sections each day. For example, I think I clean one fridge shelf or drawer a week, instead of all at once. A bit less overwhelming! =) Right now I need to get motivated to clean the window blinds...they don't look the best right now!! =)
Anyway, keep up the good work!!
You never lived on campus? Roomcheck teaches valuable lessons............. CLOSETS SOLVE EVERYTHING. Hahaha
haha! Thanks Sara :) Good for you and the clean room. My lacking usually comes with putting the folded laundry away. I really do not enjoy doing that part. Ahwell! I think everyone has room to grow. I did think of you as I cleaned out my fridge this week! :) Now that you know this of me I will be more conscious about making sure I continue to do this! :) OH and doors are most certainly closed at times! :)
Sara, I didn't get on line for your poll. You know I am unorganized. Talking to you has helped me. I am a slow doer. I did start working on the refer about a month. Monty has suggested it to me for ?(lots) of years. It is so great and we are both pleased. Pam
