Behind the Name

After my post about our difficulty coming up with a name for baby Jacob, some of you may have wondered how (and when! :) we made our decision. I enjoyed reading everyone's comments and suggestions, and even though I said I wouldn't be influenced very much by what you said, one particular comment ended up influencing our decision a lot. It was the comment from Kevin's mom. She said that her favorite choice was Jacob because it was a family name on Kevin's dad's side. I had no idea! I like using family names, but the names I knew from Kevin's side never appealed to me (Irvin, Monty, Eugene, etc :). But when I found out that Jacob was the name of Kevin's great-great(maybe another great?)-grandfather, the name Jacob went to the top of my list of choices.

As for Jakey's middle name, I had been toying with the idea of William for awhile. It is my brother's middle name, and also my Grandpa's (...and my uncle's and my cousin's middle names, and great-grandpa's first name as well!). I'm not overly fond of the name William, but it's only a middle name after all. :) Kevin isn't terribly fond of it either, but he didn't have any other suggestions. And I like carrying on this family name to another generation.

My brother Dave meeting his nephew and "middle-namesake" :) for the first time.

As for the "when," we entered the hospital with Jacob William as our top pick, but we didn't officially decide until about 8 hours after he was born. Hey, that's a big improvement over Abby and Ben - we are getting quicker at this naming thing every time! ;o)

I agree with Shauna, great classic names. And William is a great middle name-it fits so well between Jacob and Marks. :) Okay reading that again, it sounds weird, but hopefully it gets my point across, so I'm leaving it. Hehe. Nice picture of Dave and Jakey! What a proud uncle.
